This last week I learned a new twist to my scrapbooking–reverse masking. Masking is a basic technique that helps you create a lively accent on your project. You stamp an image once on your scrapbook paper card stock and once on a sticky note, cover the original stamped image with the sticky note mask, and stamp around it to create your finished image.
With reverse masking, instead of cutting around the image that I stamped on the sticky note, I cut out the center. The end result was a beautiful framed image. Wow!

This creative approach allows you to showcase some of your scrapbooking skills and your favorite photos at the same time. It doesn’t take long to switch out photos or post other important things you need to keep in sight on your clipboard.
So drag out your scrapbooking embellishments from your scrapbook supplies and begin decorating a clipboard. They also make amazing gifts or can be used personally. I use mine to showcase three separate items, from grocery and to-do lists to photos.

Scrapbooking is a wonderful way to preserve all your family’s memories. It is certainly more time intensive, however, than throwing all your photos into a standard photo album. Still, many people consider the time and energy worth it, since the finished product is so beautiful. Additionally, scrapbooking offers people the chance to be highly artistic and creative.

But after all that precise gluing and cutting, trimming and arranging, the last thing you want is your scrapbook to deteriorate over time. Working together, acid and lignin can cause both deterioration and yellowing of your photos and your scrapbooking paper.

If you’re unfamiliar with lignin, it’s one of the components used in newspaper. If you need proof of how well lignin holds up over time, just check out old newspapers. They are extremely brittle and yellow, and that’s how your scrapbook will look if you don’t choose lignin-free options.

Make sure any item that goes into your leather scrapbooking albums is clearly marked as acid-free and lignin-free. This includes any paper, glue, tape, or stickers.

A scallop set can be a versatile addition to your scrapbooking tools. You can use them to create adorable projects.
Here’s an idea for creating a tender card. Try punching out the greeting using a scallop image and tuck it behind a label holder. Use a scallop square punch for the card edging. Incorporate a milgrain edge for the label holder and a script font on the greeting, then use some type of flower image. They all compliment each other very well.

It’s everywhere! There’s really no repellent strong enough to save us from it. Even our family and friends aren’t immune to it. And doctors haven’t found a cure.
Symptoms include an itching to get home, pull out our scrapbook supplies, plug in our scrapbooking machines, and start creating! Once the creativity bug bites, there’s really not much that we can do.

When I speak of Holiday goodies it’s not baking, but scrapbooking gifts that you can create for the Holidays. We’ve had our first frost here and the feel of Autumn is in the air. I’m ready to begin craft making for the Holidays that will be here before we know it.
Decorative mini calendars are a great accessory for any desk, office, or home. I’ll find the right date calendar kit that I feel would be a great gift for my friends, perform my scrapbooking touch, and even add a few photos to it. Would this idea work for a possible gift for you to give?

Interviewing the bride is the first step toward designing any wedding project–from a simple invitation to a full-scale ensemble of invitations, programs and favors. It’s all about finding out what the bride likes. You want to work toward fulfilling her fantasy of what her wedding should be.
Here are a few tips for success when interviewing the bride: Ask the bride to bring copies of photos, magazine articles, etc. with her when you both meet, take down notes when visiting with her, use wedding scrapbook paper, and bring samples of the card stock with you so you can show her the colors available. Allow yourself enough time to create to get the project finished.

Bring this old time-honored look to your scrapbooking projects. You can make dazzling scrapbooking pages or scrapbooking card making using this mosaic technique.
Choose a few of your favorite coordinating colors for your project. You’ll only need small pieces of paper for the idea. Cut the scrapbook paper that you’ve chosen into various geometric shapes. Experiment with different shapes and sizes for a unique look. Then arrange the mosaic pieces on your base as desired, and glue. Cut away excess material from pieces that might hang over the edge of your base. Finally, apply versamark ink with a brayer and heat emboss it with emboss powder. This will create a nice glossy “tile” finish. Have fun!

How many times have you been scrapbooking late into the night and suddenly wished you had a certain stamp set or accessory? You can’t call anyone at this hour, so what do you do? Online ordering of course. This is the type of ordering that you can do 24/7, seven days a week. I enjoy the option of making my choices between many different types of what I’m looking for, as well as getting great prices. Thank goodness for the world wide web!

I’ve purchased some scrapbooking stencils for home decor and used them to decorate several walls, some of the furniture, and fabric to personalize my home. If I can safely apply paint to it, I can stencil it. Stenciling can be adapted to many surfaces.
Of course, I also have acrylic, fabric, and stencil creme on hand to use on the various projects that I pursue. I feel that the additional cost is worth it for all of the decorating that I do. So if you don’t have an interest in any other type of craft, you may be drawn to stenciling for your personal enjoyment.
