Cutting dies are used to embellish and adorn the layouts of scrapbooks and cards. Die cuts are widely accepted as a form of decorative designs that many scrapbookers and card makers use regularly.
Cutting dies are flexible especially in scrapbooking and can be utilized in die cut printing jobs using a computer and laser printer. An image can be downloaded from any die cut printing website and then sent to the printer to be reproduced on scrapbooking paper. The printed image is then cut out by hand with scissors or a die cutting machine is used.
Cutting dies can be decorated with colored markers and pens to create a more dimensional effect, or distressed edges can create a more distinct look.
I prefer pre-cut dies that I purchase at my local craft store, although many crafters use die cut machines that they’ve either acquired or cut out in a nearby craft store.

With the dawn of die-cutting machines, a whole new dimension came to scrapbooking pages and cutting dies. There are new machines and cutting dies on the market that enhance the whole concept of preserving memories. During this season, is there anything better than receiving a homemade holiday card in the mail? Anyone can buy a package of holiday cards and send out a generic message to their acquaintances. I much prefer homemade cards because they show that the person really put an effort into reaching out during the holiday season.
I don’t even care if the homemade cards look like kindergarten art projects! So long as they are made and sent with love I’m happy. For my part, I’m not the most artistic person in the world, so I use cutting dies to create designs like snow flakes, snowmen, and Christmas trees to glue on to cards. I’ve also found that a little bit of glitter goes a long way.
In scrapbooking, adding elements to our art that are interesting to touch and exciting to look at make our projects more memorable. Adding touchable texture and colors that pop-out create interest.
