I have come across a new paper saving template that I’ll include in my scrapbooking tools. The 12″X12″ template measures the same size as scrapbooking paper and offers different layout options for a scrapbook page. It also features four pre-cut corners that provide exact guidelines for cutting out a section of the scrapbook page so you can add a piece of 81/2″X11″ scrapbook paper for coordinating color. You can then use the piece of heavier
scrapbooking paper included in your scrapbooking tools that you’ve cut out to create layers for photos or other coordinating elements for your page. By doing so, you save paper, which is where the name of the template comes from. You can purchase the paper saving templates to include in your scrapbooking tools in packages.

Highschool Scrapbook

posted by GotScraps

My granddaughter is a senior in high school. She only has a few months left before she goes off to university. She doesn’t know it, but her mother has been sending me photos all year long to compile into a scrapbook my granddaughter can take with her to university. I’m hoping to have the whole thing put together by her graduation party.

Putting together this scrapbook has been a wonderful experience. I just love seeing all the photos of my granddaughter looking so happy with her friends and being so involved in school activities. The project has also been fun because my granddaughter’s school’s colors are orange, black, and white – Halloween colors! I’ve been able to use lots of funky looking Halloween scrapbook paper on each page.

If you have created a scrapbooking project and you notice cracking scrapbooking paper, you can take a couple of steps to make it less noticeable:
You can sometimes fix cracks by rubbing them lightly with a sanding block; this “erases” the damaged fibers.
You can moisten your finger and rub the crack; this “glues” the damaged fibers together.
If you you’ve ever wondered if it matters which way you fold scrapbooking paper after you’ve scored it, the answer is yes. Scoring breaks the fibers in the paper; you want to fold the paper where the fibers have already been broken.
When you fold away from the score mark and bend the fold at a ninety-degree angle, the fold will actually look like a tiny w, not a v.
Whenever possible, store your scrapbook paper in a location with higher humidity.

While most of the factors that cause cracking of your scrapbooking paper when you attempt to fold it for a project are beyond your control, you can do a few things to decrease the chances your card stock will crack.
Fold with the grain of the paper. It will very rarely crack. The grain generally runs vertically on 81/2″X11″ card stock. To find the grain, bend a piece of card stock lengthwise and widthwise. You’ll notice that there is a bit less resistance from one direction; that is the direction of the grain.

Will You Be My Bridesmaid?

posted by GotScraps

Sara, a good friend of mine from high school, recently became engaged. She has always wanted to have a small destination wedding in a tropical locale. About two days ago, I received a card in the mail from her. It’s far too early for her to be sending out invitations, so I was curious as to what it was.

Inside the envelope was a beautifully handcrafted card made using Hawaiian scrapbook paper, ribbon, and shells. On the inside she wrote a brief message about what our friendship means to her and concluded by asking me to be her bridesmaid. Of course I called her immediately and said yes! I think it was an incredibly thoughtful gesture and I can’t wait for her big day.

Holiday Memories

posted by GotScraps

As my family grows and moves around the country our holiday gatherings become even more important. I like to capture the family moments with an obscene number of photographs that make my kids and grandkids groan, “Not another one!” In the end it’s worth it because I compile all the pictures into yuletide theme scrapbooks, which I then send out to my kids as gifts.

All it takes is a little bit of imagination, glue, scissors, and some Christmas scrapbook paper. At this time of year, crafting supplies are usually on sale. Any leftovers that I have I put to good use in handcrafted holiday cards.

Here’s an idea for using stamping pads from your scrapbooking tools. No matter what your age, what better way to get in touch with your inner kid–in stamping and in life. Whether you’re a total newbie or ready to go pro, you’re sure to pick up one or two new tricks.
1. Tear edges to give a carefree air to an otherwise structured scrapbook page. 2. Take your child’s toy truck, ink the wheels up, and roll the truck over your scrapbook paper. Keep going until the wheels are clean. 3. To create a surf look when you’ve been to the beach, turn an oval punch at an angle and punch along the entire edge of your paper. The smaller the oval, the rougher the surf. Feel the salty spray of the sea by stamping, then stamping off, an element image on textured card stock.

A slider card is a slick little way to add dimension and movement to your next card making project.
To begin, cut a piece of scrapbooking paper to the desired size. Stamp any background text or images on the card. Next, choose your slider images and stamp them on a separate piece of card stock. The stamped images(s) can be any shape but should be large enough to allow for easy movement along the slider track. Cut a slider track by cutting a card stock strip that spans the width of the card. Using a paper cutter, cut two parallel slits in the card stock strip. Leave about 1/2″ on each end of the slits for stability. Cut a strip of card stock, and thread it through the slider track. Loop the strip around the track and use adhesive to glue the ends together, completing the loop. Then, glue your slider image to the loop. Finally, attach the slider track to your card with adhesive.

When you think of scrapbooks, you likely envision albums full of pictures and memorabilia that capture favorite moments in your life. But scrapbooking is also a wonderful way to preserve other things in addition to memories. Think about using your scrapbooking tools and paper and design a recipe album. I have tons of recipes that need to be preserved.
