For the beginning scrapbooker, don’t think that you need a ton of scrapbooking tools! Don’t feel overwhelmed about purchasing many, many supplies, just enjoy the hobby. Here are a few ideas for the beginner.
Don’t worry about what you need, just go with an idea that you may envision. Sizing of scrapbooks is up to you!

Another huge time-saver for the photographer beginning to create scrapbooking albums for posterity, is choosing a few basic page templates that coordinate wonderfully, and can be used to create a variety of different-looking scrapbooking pages.
Of course, the power of scrapbooking is preserving the memories. Photographs alone are not sufficient; scrapbookers need to recognize the importance of journaling. In the coming years, beautifully crafted scrapbooking albums with pictures of people on the pages that nobody recognizes from events that nobody remembers will be heartbreaking, not heartwarming.
Write down the names of the people shown in the photos and the dates that the pictures were taken. A scrapbook page becomes even more meaningful when more specific journaling is included. Themed scrapbooking albums present an ideal opportunity to do this, as journaling records the details, stories, and feelings about events that make us smile. The memories won’t last without the gentle reminder that scrapbooking albums provide, those recollections may be gone before you know it!

Senior Year Scrapbooking Kits

posted by GotScraps

My youngest brother is graduating from high school at the end of May, and I’ll be looking for scrapbooking kits to preserve the memory of this glorious occasion. He was recently accepted into his top choice university – which also happens to be my alma mater – and I am very proud of his accomplishment. With the help of my parents and his friends, I’m putting together a senior year scrapbook album that he can take with him to the university. Whenever he feels lonely or just wants a bit of home, he can look at the scrapbook album and be reminded of all the good times he has had.

Going into the local crafting store can be overwhelming; nearly everything I see I want to purchase! To avoid purchasing unnecessary items, I’ll be looking into scrapbooking kits. There are several scrapbooking kits that I’ve seen already that cater to graduations, so now I’ll need to make the big decision as to which one I’ll choose.

Research indicates Americans take billions of photos each year, so why not put them in scrapbooking albums for posterity sake? Unfortunately, most of the same avid photographers are often lost when it comes to to preserving the very pictures they’ve worked so hard to take.
Start with the basic scrapbooking supplies that any scrapbooker needs: a variety of different types of stickers, or an alphabet set and one versatile stamp set, two or three colors of coordinating scrapbooking paper and ink, and one or two accessories.
Choose a general theme or subject that offers exciting possibilities for a variety of your photos. Try to select a theme that also allows you to use photos from different years that can be used together for a beautiful layout in your scrapbooking albums. With this idea, you can create dozens of pages on this theme, all color-coordinated, to possibly cover an entire lifetime. The end result might be scrapbooking albums as gifts for grandparents, children, or a family album preserving precious family photos.
Try to select a simple muted color palette for your scrapbooking albums. It is a key to creating quick and easy pages. Muted palettes go well with most photographs, and there’s no time wasted picking new colors for each spread. If you’re worried about certain photos coordinating with your scrapbook pages, you can always print your photos in black and white, which looks great with virtually every color in your scrapbooking albums.

Cutting dies are used to embellish and adorn the layouts of scrapbooks and cards. Die cuts are widely accepted as a form of decorative designs that many scrapbookers and card makers use regularly.
Cutting dies are flexible especially in scrapbooking and can be utilized in die cut printing jobs using a computer and laser printer. An image can be downloaded from any die cut printing website and then sent to the printer to be reproduced on scrapbooking paper. The printed image is then cut out by hand with scissors or a die cutting machine is used.
Cutting dies can be decorated with colored markers and pens to create a more dimensional effect, or distressed edges can create a more distinct look.
I prefer pre-cut dies that I purchase at my local craft store, although many crafters use die cut machines that they’ve either acquired or cut out in a nearby craft store.
Cutting dies are available in just about any mass retailer or scrapbooking store.

The next time you’re considering scrapbooking albums, choose a mini photo album and design it with your scrapbooking tools. This project includes designer scrapbooking paper, fibers, wire, and a mini envelope template.
This mini accordion album is made with two strips of scrapbooking paper attached together to form one long, wide piece of scrapbook paper. It is then folded into six photo pages, perfect for small snapshots. You can alter photo pages with mini envelopes and journaling tags from your scrapbooking tools.
Mini envelopes create a perfect place for your journaling and make the most of these little pages in your scrapbooking albums. The mini envelope template creates mini envelopes from any color of scrapbooking paper.
Show your creativeness with these mini scrapbooking albums.

I have come across a new paper saving template that I’ll include in my scrapbooking tools. The 12″X12″ template measures the same size as scrapbooking paper and offers different layout options for a scrapbook page. It also features four pre-cut corners that provide exact guidelines for cutting out a section of the scrapbook page so you can add a piece of 81/2″X11″ scrapbook paper for coordinating color. You can then use the piece of heavier
scrapbooking paper included in your scrapbooking tools that you’ve cut out to create layers for photos or other coordinating elements for your page. By doing so, you save paper, which is where the name of the template comes from. You can purchase the paper saving templates to include in your scrapbooking tools in packages.

Always be leery when selecting scrapbooking albums. Although the label says, “acid free,” humidity, light, and body oils can change in things that were originally acid free. So this label doesn’t guarantee that scrapbooking albums will meet preservation quality standards over time.
If an album has a petroleum smell, it may destroy the contents of the scrapbooking album. Vinyl binders are a perfect example of what not to buy.
Look for scrapbooking albums with slipcovers. They will help to make it last by protecting it from moisture, light, and heat.
Make sure that the album that you’re thinking of buying has been made with good craftsmanship. Cotton or canvas fabrics used on the cover may not be your best choice.
Match the scrapbooking album with the purpose that it to be used for. This helps your decisions about the direction of your work.
Hopefully, these tips will assist you in choosing the right scrapbooking albums for your upcoming projects.

Organizing Baby Scrapbook

posted by GotScraps

When I look at the baby scrapbooking albums I have on my bookshelf, I’m glad that I took the time to put them together. I’m not the most artistic person, so scrapbooking seemed like a daunting task at first. Thankfully, I got some guidance from a good friend of mine who loves crafts.

She told me that scrapbooking is firstly about organization and then all about fun. She had me gather up my pictures and pick out my favorite ones. Then she had me organize them sequentially; baby’s first tooth, baby’s first step, baby’s first haircut, and so forth. Once I had all the photos selected cutting and gluing ribbons, stenciling, and labeling was actually an enjoyable way to preserve mommy memories.

The use of ribbon from your scrapbooking tools is showing up a lot these days in the scrapbooking world. Ribbon alone works fine as an accent, but when you pair ribbon with stamping, you’ll discover a wonderful way to personalize any scrapbooking or card making project.
Stamping directly on ribbon allows you to customize ribbons with carefully selected sentiments. Coordinate the color of your ink and customize your greeting, and you’ve got a one-of-a-kind personal card or scrapbook page.
Using the ribbon to overlay is a creative way to call attention to certain elements of your page or card. Stamp the appropriate words on a card, tag, or scrapbook page, then place ribbon on top to call attention to your sentiment.
Experiment with ribbon from your scrapbooking tools, use stamps, and you’re sure to be caught up in the world of ribbon. With all of the ribbon colors to choose from, you’ll find one that coordinates with your project. Tie up lots of fun of creativity when you look for ways to combine stamps with ribbon. Keep a good supply of them in your scrapbooking tools.
